• 1st Symposium

This symposium is co-chaired by the Professors Jean-Pascal van Ypersele and Marek Hudon.

Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, physicist and climatologist, is full professor at the Georges Lemaître Centre for Earth and climate research, Earth and Life Institute, Université catholique de Louvain (UCL, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium). He studies and teaches about climate change in an interdisciplinary perspective and in the framework of transition to sustainable development. He co-chairs the Interdisciplinary Master on Science and Management of the Environment at UCL. He is also Vice-chair of IPCC, member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, of the Federal Council for Sustainable Development, and of the Club of Rome-EU Chapter (details on www.climate.be/vanyp).

Marek Hudon is Professor at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (SBS-EM), Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Belgium. He is also Co-Director of the Centre for European Research in Microfinance(CERMi), and Co-Director of the Centre d'Etudes Economiques et Sociales de l'Environnement (CEESE). He has conducted research in India, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Vietnam and the Democratic Republic of Congo. His research mainly focuses on microfinance, complementary currencies, ethics, and social entrepreneurship.

The scientific coordination is provided by Ir Véronique Deuse.

Véronique Deuse, electromechanical engineer (specialising in energy), is a researcher in the ‘Centre d'Etudes Economiques et Sociales de l'Environnement’ (CEESE). After some ten years professional experience as project leader in charge of computing projects in the glass industry, she obtained an Advanced Master in Science & Environmental Management (ULB) and has made a career shift towards research. Her work focuses on innovative tools which aim at encouraging consumers to reduce their energy consumption (feedback, board games etc.), on urban wind turbines etc.

The project coordination is provided by Frédérique Verhulst.

Frédérique Verhulst has a degree in paramedical sciences and a AESS in life sciences that gave her a technical and complementary professional career experience for 14 years. After working as a policy adviser in the Minister’s office of Sustainable Development and Research, she joined the team of Professor Jean-Pascal van Ypersele to coordinate the CIDD2015.
